Peruvian exports of fresh Sutil lemon showed a year-on-year contraction of 32.2% in the first two months of this year, totaling 744,314 kilos.
The president of the consulting firm Inform@cción, Fernando Cillóniz, pointed out that shipments of Sutil lemon in January and February amounted to 335,304 kilos and 409,010 kilos, respectively. He highlights the drop compared to last year in the volumes shipped in January, which have fallen considerably from the 648,880 kilos exported in January 2021.
"The subtle lemon is a product that we Peruvians like, that is used in the national gastronomy (for the preparation of ceviche, Pisco Sour, among others), however, it is not in demand abroad, that is why the export," he said.
He highlighted that the main destination market for subtle lemons from Peru is Chile, followed by Panama and the United States.
In Peru, the main lemon producing regions are Piura (+50% of national production), Lambayeque, Tumbes, Loreto and Ucayali.
