Exports of Peruvian frozen strawberries increased considerably in 2020 compared to the previous year. Data showed that the country exported 19,957,374 kg of frozen strawberries worth US$38,123,974, an increase of 23.2% over the previous year and a 27.7% increase in value.
The main destination for Peru's frozen strawberries in 2020 was North America, with exports of 17,572,760 kg worth US$33,409,546, or 88% of the total shipments and 87.6% of the total value. This was followed by Asia with 1,462,197 kg worth $3,023,253; Latin America with 602,775 kg worth $1,070,677; Europe with 312,631 kg worth $608,907; and Oceania with 7,009 kg worth $11,589.
In the first quarter of 2021, Peru exported 6,163,167 kg of frozen strawberries with an export value of US$ 11,998,244. "2021 is off to a strong start, and we expect that momentum to continue," Cilloniz said.
The top destinations for the first three months of the year were: North America 4,910,063 kg valued at US$9,433,871; Asia 937,345 kg valued at US$1,980,057; Latin America 232,355 kg valued at US$434,343; Oceania 57,001 kg valued at US$102,170; and Europe 26,401 kg , worth $47,801.
